The American Medical Association is working on an effort to "simplify and align their expectations of accredited continuing medical education (CME) activities." The Health Professions Network has a unique opportunity to affect change as this is a matter that is certain to impact all associations that provide continuing education in the healthcare arena.
The AMA request read as follows:
The council would appreciate your input in a survey about the proposed changes to the AMA core, as well as format-specific requirements of the AMA PRA credit system...
"The suggested changes are designed to encourage innovation and flexibility in the AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ activities while continuing to ensure activities meet educational standards and remain independent of commercial influence.
"Additionally, accredited CME providers can introduce and blend new instructional practices and formats appropriate to their learners and setting, as long as they abide by the core requirements. CME providers may designate an activity format as 'other' if it does not fall into one of the established format categories without asking permission from the AMA."
Any organization providing CE credits is going to feel repercussions from changes made by the AMA. We need as many healthcare organizations to provide comment as possible.
Please offer your comments to the AMA through May 25, 2017 at 5pm Central time.
